about us
The New Inn has been trading as a pub in Halse for well over 300 years, has been through four name changes, numerous owners, an 18th century facelift and now excitingly renovations and refurbishment in 2020/21 which celebrates its new life as a community pub.
Located two miles down country lanes off the A358 Taunton to Minehead road and surrounded by beautiful Somerset countryside, the New Inn is a perfect example of a friendly, quality English pub we all know and love.
There has been a pub on this site since 1691 but few years in its history have been as dramatic as 2020 when the village (having already lost its shop and post office) got together to save its last amenity, the pub which was facing closure. They have now taken it into a new era as a community pub, something they are immensely proud of given the village population is only 290.
Over 280 shareholders have helped raise the money through pledges to first buy and then renovate the pub interior, gardens and new look accommodation into what is now a wonderful family pub offering great food and a warming fire to enjoy a drink next to. We of course welcome well behaved dogs to join in the fun! (Excluding the accommodation & restaurant area.) If you want to read more about the rules of the Community Benefit Society that was created to run the pub or help us by becoming a shareholder please click below to find out more.
Shareholders now each own a part ot the pub and very much have a say in how it should be run through the management committee and the Annual General Meeting. Shareholders constantly bring new ideas and suggestions for improvement, which because we own it, can be achieved and implemented quickly so that the pub genuinely provides for the community it serves. A cafe, Art displays, Art classes and guest beers are some of the many exciting ideas we have been able to introduce so far.
New residents to Halse and the surrounding area can still become shareholders if they wish and contribute to this project, not only ensuring the pub survives but that it constantly develops, providing what we, the inhabitants want and thus positively thrives well into the future.
Kaan Atasoy (our Head Chef), Serena Spiller & Lucy Faulkner (our General Managers) are a young but experienced team running the pub who are all passionate for their attention to detail and personal touches.
Whether you are having a working lunch, a drink after work, a coffee in the café or an evening out, there is a part of the pub that will suit you
We (both staff and villagers) believe that everyone should be treated as a friend – and in our pleasant, informal setting, be provided the most luxurious accommodation and served the best food and drinks we can produce.
